Un Choc Sanglant
A three-color print celebrating a quote from Tim’s favorite novel by Jean Genet, Notre dame des fleurs (Our Lady of the Flowers).
The objective was to explore the contrast and juxtaposition of beauty and the abject in the writing of Jean Genet. The illustrated typography represents the beauty of Genet’s language, while the accompanying imagery reflects the obscenity that he so often weds to the beauty of his words. The quote, which describes a fantasized liaison between prisoner and prison guard, translates roughly to “A bloody and mortal shock, or a sparkling embrace in a riot of spunk and panting.”
